Sign of the Times: How to Spread Knowledge and Hope During COVID-19

Apr 01, 2020

Vinyl Floor GraphicsInformative messaging about your business and its response to coronavirus can provide a calming presence for your customers as well as spread vital information through your community. Your retail signage is the perfect place for that messaging, too.

We’ve got essential signage suggestions that also build your brand and encourage a deeper connection with your customers. Many of these ideas can be adapted quickly and easily for digital signage, as well.

Include Your URL

As public life increasingly goes online, remind your customers you’re there, too. Prominently feature your URL in signs all over your store, as well as window displays or outdoor signage. (If you aren’t already, it’s a good idea to print it on your receipts, too.)

Let Your Customers Know About New Hours and Policies

Have you changed your hours to adjust to shopper demand, or are you providing special hours for senior shoppers?  Now is the time for clear communication with customers to avoid the bad kind of surprise or frustration. These scenarios also merit signage to broadcast the news:

  • If you’re taking a hiatus.
  • Your store’s returns and exchanges policy has changed.
  • If you’re only allowing online ordering and in-store pickup.

Don’t forget signs that demonstrate proper handwashing technique – in every single restroom!

Encourage Social Distancing, Especially Near the Cashwrap

Help customers fight the urge to creep up on each other. Place simple floor clings or decals at 6-foot intervals to help protect customers and employees. A simple ‘X’ to mark the spot is effective, but you can also get creative with it.

Remind Your Customers of Your Public Health Practices

Take a page from Trader Joe’s and use signs to share what your business is doing to fight the spread of COVID-19 and encourage the health of the community.

You’re reassuring customers of their own personal safety while shopping with you, and you’re reinforcing or reminding them of the behaviors they should be following as well.

Although we don’t recommend that integrated marketers adopt a tone that’s too humorous, we do encourage a positive and uplifting tone. We definitely recommend making your signage bold and branded.

And why stop at just your signage? Spread these positive, informative messages on your social channels, as well. Even though many brands are reporting less overall engagement, you can still communicate and help stay top-of-mind.

What We’re Doing to Help Our Clients and Partners

As much as our collective customers still want our goods and services, they’re also looking for reassurance: that we’re committed to our communities and our employees, and that we’ll be there for them, now and in the future. That’s what we’re here for.

We know smart communications are the key to keeping customers and protecting our businesses even during challenges times, and we’re ready to help in any way we can.
